Website: http://cas.umkc.edu/Truman%20Center/The Harry S Truman Center for Governmental Affairs exists to support interdisciplinary research, public programming and student engagement in activities that illuminate public policy issues that persist from the Truman Era to the present.
The Harry S Truman Center for Governmental Affairs traces its heritage to the former president’s enrollment in the University of Kansas City’s School of Law during the first two years of his political career and his 1969 approval of such a Center at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He envisioned a campus organization dedicated to research and the study of government to complement the efforts of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Museum and Library. President Truman drew on his own reading of history, politics, biography, and culture to transcend his Kansas City roots to preside over some of the most important policy decisions that continue to shape today’s world, and he anticipated that those involved in the Center would follow his example. The Harry S Truman Center for Governmental Affairs, a non- partisan public affairs center, is housed on the campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City as part of the College of Arts and Sciences.
