The center provides consulting services in the areas of solid and hazardous waste management, site selection for landfills and other engineering structures, environmental testing, and related matters. To raise awareness in the community, CAER organizes an annual Environmental Forum that features noted experts from industry, government and academia discussing contemporary environmental issues. The center offers a program leading to the Graduate Certificate in Waste Management. This program is designed for professionals working in the waste management industry who desire advanced knowledge in the field but who do not have the time to enroll in a graduate degree program. The certificate program also enables students holding a bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline to improve their knowledge in the waste management field and to enter the job market with graduate-level knowledge. The program requires 15 credit hours of course work that covers the major aspects of waste management. The curriculum includes field visits to waste disposal facilities and a 5-day OSHA- approved Hazardous Waste Operator Training (HAZWOPER)course.
